In 2019, we at IW Calgary Real Estate have donated our time and our fees to a number of wonderful initiatives in and around the city of Calgary.
We are REALTORS® who Care!
Charities we've supported so far:
Gems for Gems Canada http://www.gemsforgems.com/
"Gems for Gems is a Calgary based registered charity with a mission to end the cycle of domestic abuse through empowering and educating survivors.
Donations and Contributions are used in support of our Gems for Gems Scholarship Program through which, survivors and their children will be given a new life.
It is our belief that education is the key to unlocking not only the ability to gain a career but also that enables the growth within each woman needed to take a leadership role in their family.
These ladies arrive at the shelters devastated after years of every kind of torture imaginable, and sometimes, the unimaginable. Their children can not comprehend what they have seen, heard, think or feel. Confusion sets in, then anger, then more confusion follows as they attempt to make sense of it all.
We are asking for your help in ending this cycle for as many women and children as possible. This is a global epidemic that needs men and women to act now. Please join us and become part of this movement to create the spark needed to build a fire within these incredibly strong women.
They are waiting for our help… let's show them they aren’t alone."
Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) - http://aarcs.ca/
"The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) is a grassroots animal welfare organization based in Calgary with a foundation of compassion and kindness, embodied by its hard-working staff, volunteers, foster homes and supporters. Our goal is to help homeless animals in our community and enacting societal change so that someday we may all witness a Compassionate World for All Animals.
AARCS is a leader in the animal welfare community and Albertans turn to us for help. 3,500 animals come through AARCS programs each year. We have an exceptional veterinary medical program coordinated from our 3,000 square foot, in-house veterinary hospital located at AARCS Safe Haven shelter in Calgary. Having a veterinary hospital on-site has given AARCS the ability to help the animals in most dire need of medical attention with onsite surgical suites and the ability to provide life-saving treatment.
Every day AARCS receive calls about animals in need of help – from broken bones, gunshot wounds, embedded porcupine quills, and mange to deadly diseases such as parvovirus. AARCS strives to ensure that these animals receive the medical care they need, along with a chance to recover in a loving foster home. AARCS Safe Haven shelter and the on-site veterinary hospital provide emergency medical care and a new beginning for each rescued animal on their journey to forever, adoptive homes.
In addition to rescuing animals, AARCS provides numerous community support programs to improve animal welfare in Alberta. This includes facilitating a Pet Food Bank, Dog House Program, Spay/Neuter Assistance, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), Humane Education and Animal Disaster Response. By getting to the root causes of animal homelessness we can help people and pets in our community.
The organization rescues thousands of animals each year and is supported by over 1,800 volunteers and foster-parents province-wide. It is a place where people can come together to volunteer and give back in an area that is important to them. AARCS and the people who make up this amazing organization are making a difference every day in the lives of homeless animals and there really is no greater feeling in the world than to save a life."
Ronald McDonald House: https://www.rmhccanada.ca/
"Ronald McDonald Houses are the cornerstone of RMHC Canada. They give families who don’t live near a children’s hospital, a warm and compassionate home to stay in while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital. So families can stay together and close to their sick child during this most difficult time. They can also find comfort and support by meeting and talking to other families who are going through a similar experience.
All of our Houses provide families with private bedrooms, professionally equipped kitchens, laundry facilities, and playrooms for the kids. Additional services, like accredited education programs, special suites for children with suppressed immune systems, recreational activities, non-clinical support services, and sibling support services are also available depending on the House. Families pay just $11.50 per night. And if they can’t afford that, they stay for free.
Right now, there are 15 Ronald McDonald Houses hosting approximately 51% of the families with critically ill children across Canada. That’s more than 10,000 families every year. But there are still many families who are turned away every day due to lack of space. Some Houses report turn-away rates as high as 70%.
Our long-term goal is to ensure 100% of families with critically ill children have a place to call home. By fundraising, donating or getting involved, you are helping us reach that goal. Thank you for the much-needed support.
Ronald McDonald Houses provide families of sick children with a home to stay while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital. Ronald McDonald Family Rooms also provide a comfortable place for families to rest and recharge, right inside hospitals. And through Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, we help to bring basic medical care to vulnerable communities. So families can stay together and kids can heal better.
Did you know that 65% of Canadian families live outside a city with a children’s hospital? So when a child gets sick, they often have to travel hours to get treatment. Our 15 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada give families a place to stay close to the hospital where their child is being treated. 17 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms located in hospitals across the country give families a place to rest and relax just steps from their child's bedside."
