Whether you are just starting out and need a 1–2-bedroom apartment, a townhouse to settle comfortably in, or if you are moving up in the world and need a larger detached house, the options are endless. Evanston Recreation
Evanston is ever-expanding on all recreational needs. As it is still a young community, their mindset is important to let it flourish and grow without taking anything away from the natural beauty of the land. It is a community that looks to bring people together as opposed to keeping them apart. This is why you will see a lot of back lanes, verandahs, and accessible areas as opposed to closed off regions or fences. A few places you can enjoy here are:
- Evanston Community Park is a large grassy area that is blossoming into a gathering spot for friends and neighbors. People can interact here at any season whether they want to go to “the Deck” with its large shade structure and community garden. Or they can go to “The Green” to sit or start an outdoor sport like soccer or skating for the winter.
- Evanston Family Park is a small park with a whimsical playground that children of all ages can swing, slide, climb, and run while their parents can sit on the green bench and watch the baby-tree grow as their kids do.
- Nose Hill Park is a short drive away down Shaganappi Trail where there are trails and natural wonders to explore. Bring your dogs too as there is an off-leash spot for them.

Getting Around Calgary from Evanston
Because it is one of Calgary’s newest communities, the need to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown can be great for those with families. This is the benefit to living in Evanston as the focus on quality of life means to balance work and personal life. It is still easy to get to downtown from Evanston as it is essential for some people to be able to commute. Evanston has done this very well to make traveling easier.
Primary Routes
Evanston is in the northwest of Calgary, located on the northern edge of the city. The best way to get to the city is to get on the Symons Valley Parkway NW which offers quick access to 14th Street, and a right lane change onto the ramp will lead you to the AB-201 eastern road highway. On the highway you will drive it south until you reach Memorial Drive and exit on the 256-exit ramp. Continue on until you reach 5th avenue SE. In 30 minutes, you will have reached downtown.
Transit
Calgary has a great transit system as it can go anywhere, and runs all year-round. Evanston has the 124 bus that has several stops throughout, so catching it will be easy as it is in walking distance of any block. Or you can jump on the 301 and take a person straight downtown. However, you can also drive in your car for a short jaunt and cheap parking to the Crowfoot LRT station if you want to avoid the buses while still saving money on costly gasoline.
